Albert Ray Fish

Albert (Al) Ray Fish passed away peacefully in hospice care on September 7, 2026, after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born June 2, 1937, in Albion, Michigan, and graduated in 1955 from Caro High School as class salutatorian. During high school, he played basketball, football, ran track, and helped stage theater productions. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and earned an M.S. in mathematics from The Ohio State University. Al was a research scientist for Battelle Memorial Institute for 35 years. He later worked for Information Dimensions Inc., OCLC, and OpenText, retiring at age 80. Al was an avid table tennis player and a long-time member and officer of the Columbus Table Tennis Club (CTTC). There, he met his future wife, Anne Farber. They were married for 55 years and often traveled to compete in table tennis tournaments together, including the National Senior Olympics. In 2022, Al and Anne moved to Wesley Glen Retirement Community, where Al remained active and organized weekly educational movie nights. He stayed active throughout his life through sports, biking, and taking long walks with his dog. A lifelong learner, he enjoyed many hobbies, including ham and shortwave radio, electronics, camping, riding his motorcycle, and learning foreign languages.

Al was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Farber Fish; parents Ray Henry and Elva Lorraine Fish; brothers Roy Keith Fish, Donald Edwin Fish, and Alan Carl Fish; and sister Iris May Heiser. He is survived by his children, Keith (Melanie) Fish, Mary Fish, Roy (Lora) Fish; step-children, Marty Shook Hartman and Chris Shook; sister-in-law, Mary Martha Farber; grandchildren, Janelle (Chris) Conroy, Liana (Jeremy) Ruth, Evelyn Fish, and Garon Fish; Hannah Fish; Samuel Hartman and Trevor Hartman; Kyle Shook and Benjamin Shook; and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to the Columbus Table Tennis Club (https://www.facebook.com/columbustabletennisclub/). A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
