He was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on October 19, 1937, to Clifford Samuel J. Bartholomew and Ruth Madeline Keck. He attended Allentown City Schools and graduated in 1955 from Allentown High School where his father was principle. He went on to study at Penn State University. At the end of his junior year, he married his wife, Gladys Ann Morenz, from Great Kills Staten Island, New York in the Great Kills Moravian Church on June 6, 1959. After moving to Anderson, Chuck joined the Army in 1961. He received an honorable discharge from the Army Reserve in 1966 as a staff sergeant. Chuck remained with General Motors for 38 years as a senior divisional buyer. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying propeller planes as a private pilot. In his last years with General Motors, he had several overseas assignments in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgum, France, and Japan. He retired on October 1, 1998. Shortly after, he and Gladys moved to Bloomington, Indiana where they thoroughly enjoyed Indiana University athletics, the offerings of the opera and theater, and the abundant fishing opportunities at Lake Monroe. Chuck also joined the American Legion where he was a lifetime member, the BPO Elks Lodge #446 and Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington.

Chuck is survived by his children, their spouses, and his grandchildren: son James Bartholomew and his wife, Starley; daughter, Elizabeth Hoover, and her husband, Nathaniel, as well as grandchildren, Brok and Seth Haines, and Abigail and Jacob Hoover. He was predeceased by his wife, Gladys and his parents Clifford and Ruth.
