With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Dayton Smith who left this world on June 16, 2026 at the age of 78
Dayton was born on June 24, 1947 in Banner Elk, North Carolina to the late Franklin, Francis (Byers) Smith. From the very Beginning he brought joy, laughter, and love to those fortunate enough to know him. He was a loving Father, Son, Brother, and Grandfather.
To know Dayton was to know a person who was kind, strong, funny, and compassionate. He had a remarkable way of making others feel welcomed, valued and loved. Whether through a comforting word, a helping hand or a contagious smile. Dayton left a lasting impact on countless lives.
He found happiness in fishing, riding his motorcycle and especially spending cherished time with his family and friends. Some of the most treasured memories include his time in the military as Dayton served in two branches , Army and Navy and done two tours in Vietnam. He was not only strong and brave but our hero.
Dayton loved his family deeply, he is survived by his partner Mary Hatfield, his children a son Shawn (Kathy) smith of Roseville Ohio, a son Dayton smith jr of Roseville Ohio, a daughter Desira (Trace) Moxley of Lake Wales Florida. Two siblings a brother George (Debbie) Smith of Pleasantville Ohio, and a sister Patty (Smith) England of Heath Ohio,12 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Dayton was also proceeded in death by his twin brother Clayton Smith formally of North Carolina.
Though our hearts ache in his absence we find comfort in the memories that remain, forever in our hearts. Share memories and honor a life that touched so many! Forever in our hearts.
Leaf cremation is entrusted with arrangements , a service will be held at Floral Hill Memory Gardens located at 351 Coonpath Rd. NE Lancaster Ohio 43130. Celebration of life to follow at his home. Dates to be announced.
