Dorothy Adele (Reams) Chick, 94 years old, of Columbus, Ohio died on March 17, 2026.
She was born December 23, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio and was the daughter of the late George Ernest Alva Reams and Lois (Rayburn) Reams.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Oakley Russell Chick, Jr., daughter, Marilyn Sue Chick DPM, her son, Russell Steven Chick, son-in-law Jordan D. Ross DPM, brothers George Reams, Jr., Louis Reams, and Kenneth Reams and by her sister Thelma (Reams) Firman Wilson. She is survived by her daughter, Marcia Chick-Nilsen, her grandchildren, Dorothy Nilsen and Matthew Nilsen (and his wife, Heather Campbell), Daniel Chick (and his wife, Lizz Lauzon), Aaron Chick (and his partner, Billy Beeble), and her two great-children, Joey Humphrey and Carrie Chick.
An active member of the Northeast Church of Christ, Dorothy also worked at Lazarus during their golden days and was later employed as a proofreader for Pony Express, a local publishing company. She was an avid reader all her life, sharing her knowledge with those around her, always with the intent of being helpful and enlightening. During her early years, Dorothy was an accomplished roller-skater, even participating in local skate-dance competitions. A very young mother, Dorothy had her three children before she was 21 years old. She dedicated her life to teaching and guiding her children, without thought of the sacrifices she was making. All of Dorothy’s family and friends were dear to her heart. She made it a priority to stay close to them all, offering her time and love wherever she saw the need. Even without a car, Dorothy made sure she got her children to piano lessons and athletic practices. She sewed exquisite prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses for her daughters. Once she had grandchildren, she spoiled them beautifully, offering them back rubs, naps on the couch, and generally providing a safe haven from the stresses of the day. Dorothy will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service is being planned for this summer. Details will be provided when arrangements are finalized.
