Dorothy Jean Plakaros (Preece)

Jan 8, 1948 — Jul 8, 2026

Dorothy Jean Plakaros (Preece), age 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 8, 2026, leaving behind a family who adored her and enough memories to last a lifetime.

Born on January 8, 1948, in Inez, Kentucky, Dorothy was the daughter of Ernest S. Preece and Oppy Preece (Mattox) and was lovingly raised by her forever Mom, Margaret Preece. She graduated from Gahanna Lincoln High School and carried the strength and resilience of her Kentucky roots with her throughout her life.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Oppy Preece; her father, Ernest S. Preece; her forever Mom, Margaret Preece; her brother, David Preece; her precious grandson, Aaron Stiltner; and the love of her life, Henry Bates, whom she missed dearly.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Margaret Rader, Charles (Debra) Plakaros, and Tracie (Michael) Carpenter; her sisters, Donnis Raybuck and Della Steigerwald; her brothers, Dallas Preece and Danny Preece; her grandchildren, Alissa Bridges and her husband Joshua, Jennifer Plakaros, Jordan (Cynthia) Maitlen, Jacob (Kaitlyn) Meinert, Gabriel Havice, and Kat Hicks; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Hazel Maitlen and Lincoln Meinert, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss her deeply.

If Dorothy wasn't spending time with her family, there was a good chance she was hunting for her next great thrift store treasure, stopping at every yard sale she could find, working on a puzzle, trying her luck at bingo, or getting lost in a good book. She had a gift for finding joy in life's simple pleasures and never passed up the chance to turn an ordinary day into an adventure.

The doctors gave Dorothy an expiration date years ago, but anyone who knew her knew better than to tell her what she could or couldn't do. In true Dorothy fashion, she stubbornly decided she wasn't finished living yet. She exceeded every expectation, filled those extra years with love and laughter, and lived every single day on her own terms. Stubborn? Absolutely. But she loved just as fiercely as she stood her ground, and those who loved her wouldn't have wanted her any other way.Her greatest accomplishment wasn't measured by anything she owned or achieved. It was the family she loved with her whole heart. Her home, her hugs, her stories, and even her stubborn streak will be missed more than words can express.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing Dorothy has been reunited with Henry Bates, Aaron Stiltner, and all those who went before her. We can only imagine the reunion, and we know she's already telling everyone exactly how things ought to be.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Dorothy's memory to Nationwide Children's Hospital, Nightengale Cottage, in gratitude for the compassionate care she received there.

Her love, laughter, strength, and unforgettable spirit will live on in every life she touched.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.
