Dorothy Willeen Whisenant

November 4, 1933 — March 23, 2023

Dorothy Willeen Whisenant, 89, peacefully fell asleep in death on March 23, 2023 at Kobacker House in Columbus, Ohio after a valiant fight against the onset of congestive heart failure and kidney failure.

Dorothy (as most in Ohio knew her) or Willeen (as most in Texas/Arkansas knew her) was born in McCollough, Texas on November 4, 1933 and married the love of her life, Donald Whisenant, in 1958. They were married for 56 years before Don lost his battle with heart failure in 2014. She missed him dearly but knew she would see him again. Dorothy Willeen was confident in her faith, a dedicated Christian who held onto the hope provided at Acts 24:15: And I have hope toward God, which hope these men also look forward to, that there is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

She also looked forward to the day when death would be no more, as God promised at Revelation 21:4.

During her long and happy life, Dorothy Willeen took great joy and pride in her family. After being told she would never be able to have children, she poured her heart into her two blessings – her son, Scott and her daughter, Ellen.

Dorothy Willeen is survived by both of her children and their spouses - Scott and Elise Whisenant of Arkansas and Ellen and Joe Koonce of Ohio. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to crochet and worked hard to make all the family personal blankets with her signature shell stitch. She taught her daughter the stitch while resting at the hospice facility, so that her tradition of making family blankets could continue.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Don Whisenant, brother, EJ Neyland, and grandson, Clint Whisenant.

Dorothy Willeen chose to be cremated, and a memorial service for her will be held on April 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 7180 Refugee Rd., Canal Winchester, OH 43110, and will be available via Zoom for those out-of-town that would like to attend.
