Doug "Douglas" Carter McNeil

February 2, 1947 — January 31, 2026

Doug (Douglas) Carter McNeil, 78, passed away peacefully at home on January 31, 2026, in Springfield, Ohio.

Born February 2, 1947, in Lakewood, Ohio, Doug was the deeply cherished "rainbow baby" of the late Leon and Marylu McNeil, born after his parents suffered four prior miscarriages. He later attended and graduated from Cleveland State University.

Doug spent a portion of his life in Lafayette, Indiana, where he met his loving wife Loretta, and Muncie, Indiana, where he built a dedicated career as an insurance salesman for American States Insurance. He was known by colleagues and clients alike for his reliability; friendly nature and quick wit.

An active man with a wide variety of passions, Doug loved spending time playing golf and racquetball, as well as weightlifting. He possessed a talented eye for craftsmanship, dedicating many hours to woodworking and meticulously refinishing antique furniture. Doug was also a passionate, lifelong fan of Cleveland sports, enthusiastically following the Browns, the Guardians, and the Cavaliers through every season.

Doug’s family and friends will miss his quick wit; love of storytelling and all things history. He also passed to his children a deep love of animals (especially cats).

Doug is survived by his spouse of 47 years, Loretta (Perdue) McNeil; his three children, Paul (Robin) McNeil, Sean (Laura) McNeil, and Leslie (Paul) Leibold. He was also deeply blessed with seven grandchildren: Esther, Emile, Dylan, Logan, Lucy, Lauren, and Ella. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Leon and Marylu. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A private family Memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Doug's name can be made to your local animal shelter.
