Edward A. Wilson, Ph.D., 83 of Westerville, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 30th with his family by his side. Ed had dementia in his final years.
Ed was born on July 2, 1941, in Gary, Indiana. He dedicated his life to family, public education and service to his community. While he experienced hardship growing up, his humor and charisma helped him rise to success early in life as president of the class of ’59 at Hobart High School. This leadership ability would follow him throughout his life.
He taught history, became a principal at Perry Middle School in Worthington, and went on to become a Superintendent of Schools in Ohio. His recognitions included Ohio Superintendent of the Year, and one of the '100 best school managers in America' by The Executive Educator magazine. He served as President of the Buckeye Association of School Administrators (BASA), Rotary President, Kiwanis President and received countless awards for his involvement with service organizations. After retiring, he continued in education as an adjunct professor at Ohio Dominican University, Capital University and the Ohio State University.
Edward had a B.A. from Olivet Nazarene College (1963), an MSc. from Northern Illinois University (1966) and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University (1973).
Ed loved movies, especially comedies. He always made his family laugh at his spot-on impression of Donald Duck. He played golf, took scuba and guitar lessons, coached his daughter’s softball team, water skied and always made sure the family had a pet cat. He loved family, beach vacations to Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head and enjoyed going out to a restaurant for dinner. He was an all-around fun dad and Grampy. He will be greatly missed.
Edward is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bonnette Husarik, mom, Jeanette Holman Husarik, and brother, Jim Husarik.
He is survived by daughters; Amy (Joe Bauer) Varnish of Ohio, and Jennifer (Harper) Lawson of Arizona. Grandkids; Abby (Sal) Carfagna, Santino DiSabato, Faith Varnish & Wyatt Lawson. And great grandkids; Rhea, Giovanni & Talia Carfagna.
Ed was a member at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.
