Gregory Alan Jones, 64, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, with his family by his side.
Greg was born on February 23, 1962, in Erie, Pennsylvania, to the late Carroll D. and Mary Ellen Jones.
Greg spent his early years growing up in Canton, Ohio, where he became a lifelong Cleveland sports fan. He often reminisced about the lifelong friendships he formed there and the summers he spent on Kelleys Island as both a church camp counselor and sailing instructor. Some of his fondest memories were made on the water, sharing his love of sailing and faith with others.
After relocating to Lancaster, Ohio, in 1977, Greg attended both GlenOak High School and Bloom-Carroll High School. It was there that Buckeye Nation welcomed another devoted fan.
Greg's adventures with family and friends took him across the country and beyond, creating lasting memories at the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby, air shows, West Virginia University football games, the Sugar Bowl, and on various Caribbean islands. One of his favorite traditions was attending the annual Army–Navy Game with his best friend, Terry. The countless stories, laughter, and memories he shared with those he loved will be cherished forever.
Above all, Greg treasured the time he spent with his son, Grant. Together they participated in Boy Scouts, enjoying camping trips, outdoor adventures, and countless hours exploring nature. Some of Greg's favorite memories were celebrating Father's Day together by visiting air museums, watching sports, and ending the day with ice cream—preferably a hot fudge sundae.
Greg is survived by the light of his life, his son, Grant Jones; his sister, Gwen (Tim) Bonham; his brother, Eric (Jill) Jones; and four beloved nieces and nephews. Along with his many friends and extended family, they will deeply miss his quick wit, infectious laughter, and the warmth and humor he brought to every gathering.
The family is currently planning a private ceremony to celebrate Greg's life and honor his final resting place.
