Gwendolyn Louise Extenkamper, 94, went to her heavenly home on May 25, 2025, while at her residence in Nelsonville, Ohio. Gwendolyn was born on November 12, 1930 in Evans, West Virginia. She also resided in Dublin,Ohio, Delaware, Ohio and Meeker, Colorado.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald F. Extenkamper. She is survived by five daughters and one son; Donna Chaffin (Calvin), Susan Holmes (Fred), Mariann Conner (Dale), Tom Extenkamper, Barbara Gill (Gary) and Nancy Nichols (William). Deeply loved and admired by her 17 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren. She was also blessed with a “bonus” son John Purkey (Sammie) and previous daughter-in-law Patty Bogus (Stephen). Survived by sister, Elva Swearingen (Jim) and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Gwendolyn was known for her cake decorating and golf skills, was a 4-H leader and spent the last 20 years of her time helping at Nelsonville Quilt Company. During that time, her passion was sewing and crocheting items to be included in the Operation Christmas Child boxes. At the age of 89, during the Covid pandemic, she was recognized with a commendation by the State of Ohio, for her effort in supplying hundreds of homemade masks for the community and beyond.
Gwendolyn was an active member of the Logan Nazarene Church for the past 20 years. We will honor her beautiful life, on June 28, 2025, at the Logan Nazarene Church, Logan Ohio. The service will begin at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, Gwendolyn’s wish is that donations be made to The Logan Nazarene Church for Operation Christmas Child.
