Harvey A Merz, age 66, left his earthly body on Tuesday, 7/21/26, to join his mother, Agnes Merz, and father, Otto Merz, and his savior, Jesus Christ, in eternity. Harvey suffered debilitating back pain for most of his adult years but always had a smile on his face. He buried his former loving wife, Eileen, just 13 years ago and leaves a shattered girlfriend, Tammy Johnson, with a broken heart. His brother, Ralph Merz (Theresa), sisters Bonnie Alexander (Patrick), and Monica Holcomb (Mark) as well as his dog, Biscuit, and cats, Dinky and Yardstick, will miss him immensely. Bonnie’s children, Matthew Alexander and Ciara Flower, always laughed at Uncle Harvey’s antics and will miss the laughter he brought to any gathering.
Harvey was a mechanic by trade, and could fix anything, including a treasured Hallmark Christmas ornament with a train that had quit running through the mountain, and too many weed eaters to even count adorned his “fix it” garage walls. What a gem he was!
Harvey’s father, Otto, was in the US Air Force, so Harvey leaves friends and memories of living in Weisbaden and Zweibrucken, Germany, Columbus, Mississippi, Columbus, Ohio, as well as his final home just outside Lancaster, Ohio, where he and his sweetheart, Tammy, were always laughing and loving. He also enjoyed fishing and time in the woods of Pleasantville, Ohio.
