James Eston Cassady, 73, of Sidney, Ohio, passed away on September 26, 2025, at Momentus Hospice on Buckeye Avenue, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on January 20, 1953, and on May 19, 2007, he married Jodie (Philllis) Cassady, who survives.
James was the son of the late Herbert “Chummy” Cassady and Mariel (Hobbs) Cassady. He was also preceded in death by his loving son, Joshua Cassady of Toledo (January 18, 1976 – December 26, 2007); and by his brothers Thomas Cassady, Darryll Cassady, Jeffery Cassady, Brian Cassady, and Ross Cassady.
Jim was a loving father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He was a proud member of Narcotics Anonymous and deeply cherished his family. He enjoyed playing guitar, writing songs, and singing.
He is survived by his sister Colleen (Cassady) Thomas and her husband Tony Thomas of Toledo; nephews Matthew Thomas and Tony Thomas, both of Toledo; and several other loving family members.
Also surviving are his nephew Chauvin Cassady and wife Melody Cassady, along with their children Toby
Cassady (great-nephew) and Madison Smith (great-niece), all of Texas. He is also survived by niece Niki (Cassady) Mitchell and her husband Richard Mitchell, and their daughters Evalina, Allison, and Paige Mitchell (great-nieces), all of Alabama.
Jim worked as both a mason and a truck driver before retiring. He adored his nieces and nephews and loved spending time visiting with family. He will be deeply missed by his two cats, Tuxie and Tiny, and his two dogs, Peanut and Potatoe.
Jim also had an adopted daughter, Kristen Horton of Toledo, and a granddaughter, Josie Cassady, whom he loved dearly.
He will be remembered for his warm heart, musical spirit, and the love he shared with all who knew him.
