James A. Schoenberger

James A. Schoenberger passed peacefully after a long battle with Parkinson’s on Saturday, August 2, 2025 in Grove City, Ohio surrounded by loved ones. He was born March 3,1953 and grew up in Upper Sandusky, Ohio. He graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1971 and from Ohio State University with a teaching degree in 1975. He moved to the Columbus, Ohio area in 1990 with his family and remained a resident of the area until his passing.

He was preceded in death by his parents James V. and Marilyn F. (Barth) Schoenberger of Upper Sandusky, OH and his son Aaron J. Schoenberger of Hilliard, OH. Survived by his wife Debbie Schoenberger and his former spouse and friend Cheri Rhodes Mack. Loving father of Jenni (Jim) deSanJose, Melissa (Nathan) Baugess, daughter-in-law Anita Schoenberger, and step-daughter Ashley (Brad) Orsbone. Proud grandfather of Ariana, Stephen, Alexis (Logan), Seth, Zachary, Sara, Gage and Connor. Devoted great-grandfather of Aubriella, Joshua, Amelie, and Aurora. Also survived by his sister Julie (Cletus) Monk, along with many friends and relatives.

James, “Jimi”, will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a loving father, who always made time to visit and spend time with those he cared about. He worked as a Machinist in Upper Sandusky and in Franklin County, and retired after working for many years at Concept Engineering. He was a pilot and an avid car, plane and motorcycle enthusiast. He loved air and car shows and enjoyed taking drives throughout his life. He was also a talented actor and musician and participated in local theater productions at the Star Theater in Upper Sandusky, along with other community theaters near home. He remained an OSU fan throughout his life.

To celebrate his life, a memorial service will be held at the Community Christian Center in Upper Sandusky, Ohio on Saturday, August 23, 2025, with Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. Visitation will be noon to 1pm and the service will immediately follow at 1pm.
