Jeffrey Emmett Fitzpatrick

 Jeffrey Emmett Fitzpatrick, 78, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 15, 2026, after a short illness.

Born on November 19, 1947, in Coshocton, he was the son of Lewis and Mary Jane (Young) Fitzpatrick. Jeff graduated from West Muskingum High School in 1966 before going on to serve his country in Vietnam as an Army Communications Center Specialist.

Following his time in the military, Jeff devoted his life to education, becoming a teacher in the Zanesville City School District where he taught for 30 years. He didn’t just teach lessons from a book—he inspired, encouraged, and made a profound difference in the lives of so many. His ability to make learning fun and connect with his students left a lasting impact on hundreds of teenagers who will always remember him as “Mr. Fitz.” A lifelong fan of high school football, he also served as the Equipment Manager for the Zanesville High School football team for 15 years.

Jeff was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, collecting ginseng, and spending time with his family and pets. He was the kind of person who could easily strike up an hour-long conversation with a stranger, especially if it was about sports or fishing, and he never hesitated to say exactly what he was thinking.

While Jeff wasn’t always one to wear his heart on his sleeve and could seem tough and strong on the outside, underneath was a gentle soul with an enormous heart. His kindness, empathy, and quiet love were incredible gifts to everyone who truly knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Linda (Lynch) Fitzpatrick; his children, Amy McLain, Larry (Jennifer) Fitzpatrick, and Dylan (Ellen) Fitzpatrick; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Jeff was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Joe and David Fitzpatrick, and his beloved dogs, Garcia, Blackie, and Daisy.

A celebration of life will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in his memory to your local animal rescue.
