Jess Arlen Murphy

Jess Arlen Murphy, 54 of Powell, Ohio passed away on May 21, 2025 at home surrounded by his family and beloved dog, Buddy. 

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 26, 1970 to parents Nancy and George Murphy. He grew up in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania along with his younger siblings Clay and Jill. Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball and playing guitar. When Jess was 17 years old he moved to Columbus, Ohio to attend DeVry University for engineering.

In 1991 he met his future wife Stephenie. They were later married on December 24, 1994 and were married for 30 years. In 2000 they had their daughter Harley Murphy and in 2002 had their son Hyde Murphy. For a majority of his life Jess worked as a software engineer doing everything from creating apps to writing software for bionic limbs. His most recent employment was with Veeva Systems as the Director of Engineering where he worked for the past three and a half years. Outside of work he enjoyed playing guitar, rock music, Star Wars and other sci-fi franchises, trips to the beach, and spending time with family. 

In October of 2023 Jess was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer. He had a long and hard fight, lasting 19 months. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Stephenie Selzer Murphy; his 2 children Harley Murphy (fiancé, Joshua Clark) and Hyde Murphy (fiancée, Kristin Dellinger); his siblings Clay Murphy (wife, Julie Murphy) and Jill Bysick (husband, Scott Bysick); and his mother Nancy Murphy. He was preceded in death by his father George Murphy.

His family would like to thank those in his and their lives for all of their love and support during Jess's fight with cancer.
