Joni Rae Whistle

Joni Rae Whistle, age 71, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on May 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 19, 1955, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Billy Edward Murphy and Barbara Jane Ellet.

Joni loved her family and friends deeply, leaving them with fond memories of her fun spirit, warm hospitality, and immense generosity. Known for her love of reading and her excellent cooking, she possessed a rare gift for striking up a meaningful conversation with anyone she met. She took great pride in maintaining a beautiful home and an inviting front porch, and she could readily name every plant and flower in her yard. Above all, Joni made everyone who visited feel completely at home.

Throughout her life, Joni achieved much both personally and professionally. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother who welcomed in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with an open heart. A woman of many talents, she worked a myriad of jobs over the years, succeeding at everything she put her hand to. Later in life, she successfully ran her own business alongside helping her husband with his.

Joni is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, William Chester (“Chet”) Whistle; her son, Brandon Whistle; and her daughter, Kelly (Bryan) Fox. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Austin Whistle, Brynn Whistle, and Kylie Whistle; Seth (Meredith) Fox; Ian (Bethany) Fox and their children, Magnolia and William; and Brennen, Koby, Jesse, Avi, Jadon, Adalyn, and Alivia Fox.

Additionally, Joni is survived by her brother, Kevin Murphy; her beloved Aunt Sue Stephenson; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Joni’s family will most fondly remember her love for the Lord and the beautiful legacy of faith and care she leaves behind. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
