Mary Lee Green

Mary Lee Green, age 91, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 20, 2025. A lifelong resident of the Baltimore/Thurston area, she was born June 2, 1934, in Thurston, Ohio to Leo and Catherine Weidner. She was a 1952 graduate of Thurston High School where she excelled academically and participated in sports (basketball). She married Elmer “Gene” Green (deceased) in 1953. She worked a 30-year career as the payroll manager for the paper mill/box plant in Baltimore, Ohio, where she was instrumental in transitioning the plant into the computer age during the 1970’s. She retired in 1997. Mary lived life to the fullest, spending time with her family, gardening on her farm, and serving our Lord and community through her Church and family. Mary’s favorite saying was “One is nearer God’s heart in a garden than anywhere else on earth.” Mary loved to read and was a author. She published three historic-based novels as well as a collection of short stories. Mary was a Cub Scout Leader for Troop 187, Den 4 for 14 years, a life-long member of the Thurston United Methodist Church where she served in many roles over the years including as a Sunday School Teacher, a United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) leader, and an after-school program leader. Mary also conducted tours at the Georgian Museum in Lancaster, Ohio for the Fairfield County Heritage Association.

She is survived by her sister Barbara (Charles) Deeds of Sugar Grove, Ohio, loving children, Dr. Kenneth (Martha) Green of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, Roger (Princess) Green of Pickerington, Ohio, Peggy (Greg) Phillips of Morning View, Kentucky, David (Lisa) Green of Huntersville, North Carolina, and James (Terry) Green of Baltimore, Ohio; grandchildren, Dr. Martha Green, Kenneth Green, Dr. Rebecca Green Yartz, Kevin Green, Brittany Chung, Osmar Harris, Olivia Davis, Christina Davis, Carlita Ulko, Tanisha Fuller, Deion Fuller, Brandon Fuller, Dana Sims, Andrew Green, Ashton Green, Allison Cimo, Aaron Green, Kelly Taber, Joshua Taber, John Taber; great-grandchildren, Anna McPherson, Olivia McPherson, Ben Green, Ellie Green, Harrison Yartz, David Yartz, Artemisia Green, Edward Ulko, Drake Ulko, Nathan Ulko, Naiomi Fuller, Neo Von Fuller, Jenilee Phillips, Savannah Sims, Alexis Sims, Kaylin Sims, Rylee Kestella, and her many great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert Weidner, and her grandson Edward Ulko.

A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 5 pm on August 29, 2025, at the Thurston United Methodist Church, 2015 E. Main St, Thurston, OH. Food/refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Thurston United Methodist Church, P O Box 64, Thurston, Ohio 43157.
