Michael Huston

October 7, 1943 — January 23, 2026

Michael Edward Huston I, known to everyone as Mike, was born on October 7, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, to Lawrence and Doris Huston. Mike lived a life rooted in family, hard work, laughter, and loyalty to the people he loved most.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Larry Huston; and his wife of more than 45 years, Shelby Huston. Together, Mike and Shelby built a life and a home in Outville, Ohio, where countless memories were made and stories were shared.

He is survived by his sisters, Debra (Richard) Bartels and Kim (Steve) Mulholand.

Mike was a proud father to Lynn Anne (Daniel) Watson, Tammy (Rob) Drake, Carol Ann Jordan, Jimmy (Michelle) Allen, and Michael (Nikki) Huston. He had an especially close relationship with his sons, Michael and Jimmy, and took great pride in being their dad. Known affectionately as “Papaw,” Mike had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored.

Mike proudly served his country as a United States Navy veteran for four years during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he spent 32 years working for CSX Railroad as a Conductor and Brakeman, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and dedication.

In retirement, Mike and Shelby enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, a place that became a favorite for relaxation, laughter, and time with family and friends. Mike was happiest doing the simple things—playing his daily lottery numbers, enjoying meals at Denny’s or Bob Evans (always “Bobbie’s” to him), watching sports, spending time with his beloved dog Roxy or simply being with the people he loved. Mike had a great sense of humor and never missed a chance to make us laugh. He was a devoted sports fan and could often be found watching games on television, with a special love of Ohio State football. In recent years, Mike enjoyed spending time with his sister Kim going to doctor visits, the YMCA or just enjoying lunch.

Above all else, he will be remembered as a family man—someone who showed his love through presence, conversation, and loyalty. Mike’s laugh, stories, and steady place in the lives of those who loved him will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A celebration of life with family and friends will be planned for a later date.
