Cathy passed away at Riverside Hospital in Columbus surrounded by loved ones, on Friday, August 15, 2025, after a long illness.
Preceded in death by her parents, Wm Myron Janes and Mary Frances Schlotzhauer Janes of Morgan County Ohio, and several fur babies. Surviving, sisters Judith Carol Janes-Tinkham (Ron) and Cheryl Janes Rioch (Robert) and her nephew William and niece Elizabeth.
Cathy had a rich and diversified career starting in Marietta where she worked for: the Ohio Department of Highways (Transportation) District 10; the Betsy Mills Club; Dr. Robert L. Rudolph Medical Practice, and at the Federal Treasury Department, Parkersburg, WV. Broadening her horizons, she moved to Athens where she diversified her skills as she gained experience starting with the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation; Ohio Department of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, District 8 Office Athens and Regional 10 Offices in Columbus and Cambridge. From there she entered the academic world via the Ohio University Press/Swallow Press before moving on to the Ohio University School of Telecommunications (TCOM) until she retired in 2004.
Not one to sit around, her love of quilting and the joy she got from sharing her passion led Cathy to embark upon a second career at the Nelsonville Quilt Company where she made big quilting dreams come true for herself and others.
An avid quilter, who loved being with other quilters led her to become one of the founding members of the PieceLovers Quilt Guild of Athens. She also belonged to Sew n Sews Quilt Guild; Hocking Valley Quilt Guild (Logan); Lancaster Rose Quilt Guild; Goodtime Quilters (Circleville); and the Regional Midwest Fabric (Quilt) Study Group of the International Quilt Museum. She also served on the Ohio Bicentennial Quilt Committee 2003; and was a founding member of Ohio Quilts!! the state quilt guild.
Throughout her life, Cathy did volunteer work for Special Olympics; Athens Pound Rescue, Avalon Animal Rescue, and Athens Art Alliance.
