Robert Vawter Stribling

Robert Vawter Stribling , 88 of Mount Vernon ,OH passed peacefully on January 21, 2026 at the Eastern Star Home after a brief illness.

Robert was born March 3rd, 1937 in Miami, Florida to Fred S. Stribling Sr. and Doris B. (Pyfrom) Stribling. After graduating high school in 1955, he continued to college to study electronics. He became an electronics engineer and worked for General Electric and Honeywell until he retired. He was part of many classified military projects and held Top Secret security clearances. He resided in Tampa, Fl for most of his life. After retirement he worked for FEMA as a site manager during natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and several others. He later moved to the small town of Woodville in the Tallahassee area. Here he joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary and in 2004 at the age of 67, received an award from his division for most hours on the water by an aux. member.

Robert’s greatest love was flying. Robert was an avid pilot who flew solo and got his pilot license at 16 years of age. He continued on to get his instrument rating, twin engine certification , sea-plane license and was a certified ground school instructor and member of the Civil Air Patrol. He owned many private airplanes over the years, his pride and joy being his 6-seater Aztec twin. One of his other favorite hobbies was fishing and he flew countless trips to the Florida Keys, Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas, bringing back many varieties of delicious salt water fish. He also enjoyed scuba diving in these locations as well. We wish him well on this final flight.

Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Doris B. (Pyfrom) Stribling, his Father Fred S. Stribling Sr., a brother Fred S. Stribling Jr. and his nephew Fred S. Stribling III.

He is survived by his son Robert D. Stribling of Mount Vernon, OH. A sister-in-law Arline Stribling of Miami Florida. Nieces Leslie, Laura, and Leigh, and a nephew Mark of the South Florida area. There are many great- nieces and nephews there, as well as cousins and extended family in Tennessee.
