Shirley Ann (Tauber) Wolfe January 23, 1937 – October 2, 2025
Shirley Wolfe, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and nurse, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. Born in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, to Carl and Alice Tauber, Shirley was the youngest of six siblings and the last surviving member of the Tauber children.
Her early life was marked by extraordinary events, including three thwarted kidnapping attempts that made headlines in the local paper — thanks to the quick actions of a family maid and her older siblings. Shirley grew up helping at the family’s business, Tauber’s Delicatessen & Market on Main Street, where she painted signs and contributed to the store’s reputation for authentic German and Scandinavian cuisine, including her father’s handmade sausages and farm-fresh meats.
A gifted artist and accomplished speed skater, Shirley won several awards in her youth. She met her husband Bernie Wolfe in high school, and together they raised six children. While juggling motherhood and night shifts at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California, Shirley earned her LVN 2 Critical Care nursing certification through Ventura College.
After Bernie’s retirement from Point Mugu Naval Air Station, the couple settled in Clearlake, California. Shirley continued her nursing career at RedBud Community Hospital, where she worked until retirement. She and Bernie cherished their time on the lake, hosting family and friends with warmth and joy.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Bernie Wolfe, daughter Carol Wolfe, and son Michael Wolfe. She is survived by her children William Wolfe, Ronald Wolfe, Linda Wolfe, and Barbara Wolfe; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Her legacy lives on in the love she gave, the lives she touched, and the stories that will be shared for generations.
