Walter Clemens King, 73, passed away on April 23, 2026. He was born to Ray and Lorraine (Mueller) King, in Baltimore, Maryland on December 13, 1952. Growing up in Lawton and Tulsa, Oklahoma he loved the outdoors, and from an early age.
He is survived by his siblings, Tim (Elizabeth) King, Marty (Lisa) King, and Elaina (Kyle) Culver; and by his sons, Daniel (Melissa) King, James (Kumiko) King, and five grandchildren Eliott, Beckett, Petra, Oliver and Milo.
Walter pursued a career as an artist, and after earning his Master of Fine Arts degree at Boston University, dedicated more than 30 years to teaching drawing, design, and illustration at the Columbus College of Art & Design, finding a place amongst the Central Ohio art community. He was especially proud of his work curating exhibitions and participating in cultural exchange with artists in Dresden and Buenos Aires. Throughout his life he exhibited nationally and around the world, including exhibitions in Argentina, Croatia, Germany, Japan, and as part of the Society for Illustrators in NYC.
Born on the Chesapeake Bay, Walter loved sailing the waters of Lake Erie and fishing along the Potomac river. Now on his final voyage, may he close his eyes and come to life.
The community is invited to join family and friends in remembrance of Walter at an art reception and celebration of life on Sunday June 28, from 4:30pm -7pm in the Joseph Canzani Center Gallery at CCAD, 30 Cleveland Ave. (Columbus) with words at 6pm.
